A run, a walk

Last weekend was the LA Marathon, which carved an awesome new route through the city, from Dodger Stadium to the Santa Monica Pier. But most exciting to me was seeing how many people were out cheering on the runners; by 8am all of Silver Lake had clustered around Sunset Boulevard, drinking coffee and enjoying picnic breakfasts. I ran into a dozen of my neighbors within a few blocks.

But my very favorite marathon-watchers were these ladies, who were handing out donuts, beers and—yes!—Peeps!

I took a detoured 4 bus to Santa Monica, which served as a nice shuttle to take marathon crowds directly to the end of the race to meet their runner friends. Near Santa Monica and Virgil, I saw this beautiful but slightly unsettling sight: An electrical box spewing its rainbow-colored entrails onto the street.

Vent mouth

Also on Santa Monica, I had never noticed this brilliant solution for working an existing vent into one’s Michelin-type man.

I would have totally taken these

When I got to Santa Monica, I was walking down 4th Street when I came across these gorgeous hot pink flats. Walking around LA I do come across a fair number of shoes on the sidewalks, but rarely are they so stylish and so…pink. So I did what I’m sure any of you ladies out there would have done. I slipped off my shoes and tried them on, with the full intention of walking away with a brand new pair of street-foraged footwear. Unfortunately, they weren’t my size.
