Not-so-golden memories

Testing out Flickr's new iPhone app.

It’s cold here, as you may have heard. But I’m not going to use this occasion to complain about the fact that I had to wear LONG UNDERWEAR the other day instead of my beloved tights. Instead, I’ll use the dropping temperatures as a way to introduce this story by DJ Waldie, one of my writing heroes, who I met earlier this week for the first time. Waldie wrote a recent piece at KCET about how the seemingly miraculous industry of ripening oranges during the California winter left a somewhat bitter aftertaste on the city’s social and environmental landscape. If you’re not reading his column on LA regularly, you should.
